Best Artist of the Moment: Tobacco
Well I discovered this guy awhile back when I was looking at who was headlining the show that Beans (of Anti-Pop Consortium fame) was opening for at the Larimer Lounge. Turned out it was Tobacco, so I said what the hell, let's if he is any good. Turns out the music is amazing, I have been listening non-stop for over a week!
Starting out as the from man of a band called Black Moth Super Rainbow, an analogue psychedelic pop band, Tobacco has evolved from emulating the lo-fi, broken tape recorder sounds of Boards of Canada (sorry to use this comparison again, but in this case it's dead on!) to pulling out incredibly raw, catchy loops out of an analogue synth set to old school hip-hop beats with some distorted vocoders on top. The idea behind the Tobacco cover being to move away from pop towards something that a rhyme can be put to. This evolution can be tracked pretty easily from Dandelion Gum (second to last BMSR album) through Fucked Up Friends 1 & 2, finally culminating in Maniac Meat and LA UTI EP where we finally hear a few rappers throwing down some words on top of the Tobacco sounds. Well, enough with the words, here are some tracks for you to make up your own mind. I recommend you listen to "Lambourghini Meltdown featuring Zackey Force Funk" at the very least.

Radiohead - The King of Limbs
Radiohead is back! It's been quite sometime since this quintet has released an album, and it seems like that's a good thing. To be honest, In Rainbows seemed a bit rushed and it just didn't stick with me. This time around they took their time and created something that is truly different, more evolved. The King of Limbs is a lot more rhythmic than anything Radiohead has released to date seemingly drawing influences from 2-step. This is definitely an album that takes some listening to. It is not something catchy that I find myself listening to incessantly, but something I have to do as a task. And that's a good thing! It is definitely a listeners album, with many layers to dissect. 8.5/10

Neon Indian - Mind Ctrl: Psychic Chasms
i've been meaning to check this out for quite awhile, but somehow never got around to it. got distracted by other music, as always. anyway, from what i understand this falls in the genre of "chillwave." basically what i deduct from this is lo-fi electronica (ala Boards of Canada - Old Tunes) on top of a pop song underlining, modulated vocals, and in the case of Psychic Chasms, with a tinge of Daft Punk for good measure. 8/10
this is the beginning
this is a blog about music. more precisely, albums that i listen to. i will not write eulogies or metaphorical prose describing said albums, just brief descriptions as a sort of guide. so that one knows what he or she is getting into if they decide to jump in.
